HOW WE MAKE SHOPPING EASY

01. Jan

So I and my friend had spent the entire morning talking about what type of shoes we needed to get. My grandmother walked into the kitchen where we were and said “you children of nowadays, is it not just to get dressed and go the market? You'll spend all day laughing and looking into your phones, is that how you’ll get your shoes? From a phone?”. My grandmother had started. “Grandma, I answered, why go through all the stress of the market when....,you know what?…Grandma lets go to the market”. She agreed. An hour thirty minutes later we parked close to a UBA bank in the market in CMS,we were at the hub of it all, center for women’s market and so began our walk. There were lots of lovely things to buy and some, at interesting prices but we came for shoes. My grandmother surprisingly knew her way around the market “Grandma", I called, “yes my dear” “how do you know all this place?” I asked. My friend was laughing behind me, “Grandma...Grandma… so you bad like this.” “ehnu... she replied, where do you think I buy clothes from and am I that old to not look good? She said smiling back at us. 20minutes later we got to a building with so many shoe shops in it, so many ladies and young girls moving around, my grandmother greeted some of the traders there in Yoruba, being the “multi-lingua” as I often call her. We saw a lot of pretty shoes but the problems were:

1. Most of the stores had similar designs.

2. No particular design had the full size run.

3. We had to wait a longtime; sometimes for them to get a second pair or the owner was not in the store.

4. We had to walk around to view so many shoes.

After some 1hr 30 minutes, we ended up buying one because there was no variety in their taste, at least I thought, “Grandma you see why I do not like coming to the market, it’s not like it’s a bad thing, it’s just that technology has made it easy for us to buy smart and not hard”. “What do you mean?” she asked.. I took her into a nearby restaurant, sat her down, whipped out my phone and typed “heels.com.ng”. A page opened with vast colorful women’s shoe collections. “ ehh why are you showing me this?” she said with her face squeezed up a little…lol...she was frowning, I ignored “Grandma see, with this, we can sit home and browse through a large collection of shoes at once without having to walk around so many shops, consuming so much time” “hmm I like this one” “yes grandma”. I tapped on my phone screen tap> “k.aspen - Blush heat”, it opened up to reveal details of the shoe and size available. 15 minutes later I, my friend and grandmother had selected 3 pairs of shoes each that we all wanted to buy, payed online, and left the restaurant to the car headed for home. The next day we got a call from their dispatch rider saying he was at the house and placed my grandmother on the phone. We came home from work at past 6pm to our shoes and a heartwarming smile from my grandmother.
