HOW DO I BALANCE SCHOOL, JOB, LIFE AND A BLOG?!

One of my greatest strengths that I am quite proud of is how I balance and time manages everything. Every minute of my day counts and I always ensure that it is spent being productive. When you live such a busy lifestyle, you just don’t have time to waste.

Here’s a synopsis of my life:

-I go to school with a full course load. I am in the Bachelor of Digital Communications program.
-I currently have one part-time job as a server, but maybe tackling a second one. Call me crazy.
-I have a boyfriend, family, and loving friends that are a huge part of my life.
-I try to go to the gym at least 3-4 times a week depending on my schedule.
-I manage this blog and my social media channels (Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, and Facebook).
-And sometimes I freelance or do some digital marketing consulting here and there.

Sally, how are you doing all this? Aren’t you sleep-deprived or going crazy? (Yes, I am talking in the third person cause it sounds cooler).  But seriously, how do I do it? How do I balance everything on my plate?

TIME MANAGEMENT

This wasn’t something I was always good at. Heck, I remember staying up all night throughout high school procrastinating. I didn’t have much care in the world about time management because I didn’t have too much on my plate. Now, I’m tied between school, work, my blog, and the whole “adult” thing that I don’t have time to waste. You have to learn to manage your time if you want to stay on top of things. If you have 24 hours in a day, how are you going to spend each hour?

PRIORITIES

With that being said, how much time are you going to spend on a specific task or project? With the 24 hours you have each day, subtract the number of hours you will be at work and your commute. Now subtract an approximate time for eating and sleeping because those are living essentials that you will need and shouldn’t have to compromise. With the remaining hours, decide what’s most important and what you should spend the most time on. Prioritize everything that’s on your plate and dump the irrelevant ones.

WORK VS PASSION

Figure out what you love to do and find out if you’re in a good spot or not. If you don’t love your studies or your work, why are you doing it? You’re wasting your time when you can be using that time on something worth caring about. School is a priority for me because I love everything about my program and the people I hang out with. I enjoy my program also because I want to be good at what I do and be able to take the skills and knowledge learned for my future. When you have a passion for something, you’re going to have more drive and motivation to work hard and not slack off. I try to balance my school and work, but wouldn’t it be more awesome if your passion was your work?

SELF-CARE & OVERALL HEALTH

I never realized how important self-care and your health were until maybe just last year? I used to spend so much time working and studying that I would neglect my health. I didn’t think getting more than 3 hours of sleep each night was important because I had all the caffeine in the world to keep me going. No, you’re going to crash harder than ever and that will set you back. You will find yourself burning out frequently, losing motivation, having ups and downs, and maybe just straight up depressed about everything. Taking the time to care for yourself will ensure that your body is ready for all the asses you’re going to kick and prepare you to conquer the world. Find the balance in your life.

I’m not a superwoman at balancing my life, but I’m trying and that’s what matters the most. Sometimes I still struggle with time management or I neglect my health here and there, but it’s all a learning process. You’re bound to have constant ups and downs, which is totally normal. As long as you have the right mindset and the drive for success, you got this.
